description

The slinky spring was actually created by accident, by mechanical engineer Richard James in 1943. While Richard worked to create springs which could keep stable delicate ship equipment at sea, he accidentally dropped some of his samples, and observed amused as they gracefully seemed to “walk”.
Along with his wife Betty James, Richard came up with a plan to turn his invention into a novelty toy.

Towards the end of the XXth century, over 250 million Slinkys had been sold.
