description

This design belongs originally to Charles and Ray Eames, in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the “Lox-Cost Furniture Design” contest, organized by the Museum of Modern art in New York in 1950. The Fiberglass chair was the first plastic seat to be industrially produced. Further on, upon the notice of the environmental hazard that caused by fiberglass production, the making of the chair was suspended until a more adequate material was found. In 2004, Herman Miller introduced the chair back into the market, this time making the seat out of 100% recyclable polypropylene.
